- The Mission President and some others had just picked up a new batch of missionaries from the airport. They stopped at La Portada for pictures and then went to pick up some pizza. At first they thought they weren't feeling well because they were hungry, but then realized it was a bit more than that when they saw the cars outside bouncing like crazy. What a start to a mission! A sister missionary from Tonga was so nervous before the quake, and much more after.
- Another friend was riding a bus with her baby and had absolutely no idea that there had even been an earthquake until the bus stopped to pick up hysterical people waiting to get on the bus.
- Carolita, my parents exchange student, doesn't understand why everybody was so scared because she was in a swimming pool and loved that it turned into a wave pool... crazy girl;).
- A friend whose son is in Hailey's school class had the best (or worst) story by far. She was at the mall with her 4 year old and 2 year old when the earthquake hit. It gets worse. The 3 of them were in the elevator all alone! Can you imagine? It was stuck for 15 minutes following the quake, sometimes with, but more often without light. I thought my experience was bad, but it doesn't even compare. She also had a 6 yr old in school and a baby at home with the nanna. She for sure wins the prize.

Were We in the Same Earthquake?
I'm learning that extra time is needed when we leave the house for now because every time we run into a neighbor, friend, or even somebody that we were only introduced to once they want to exchange earthquake stories. I enjoy doing this, but I need to get better at planning my time. Most of the stories are similar... parents on their way to pick up their children from school, or people working or shopping. It is so interesting to me that although we were all part of the same earthquake, our experiences have each been so different. There are some stories that are worth posting:
