This week I've been so discouraged. Everyone and everything I voted for failed. Romney, traditional marriage and voter ID just seemed like such obvious choices to me. Are my beliefs so different than the rest of the country? These last few months so much of me has gone into these campaigns. Time, thoughts, money, conversations, etc. Could I have done more?
I felt quite validated for the sadness that has fallen upon me after talking with friends and family, and reading this blog post.
As I'm sure most conservative Americans have done this week, I have done a lot of soul searching since Tuesday night; this is the conclusion I have come to:
If the failure of everything I stand for and believe in politically can be so heart wrenching, how much worse would it be if I failed with my family? I CANNOT fail with my family. I need to try harder and do better every day to be a better wife and mother. The values that I see lacking in the world need to be a focus of what is taught in my home. I need to fight for my family, even more than I fought for traditional marriage in my state.
